North Shore Wedding at a Geodesic Dome – Schroeder, MN – Paul & Taylor
Paul and Taylor’s North Shore wedding was certainly one for the books! Paul and I go way back to college when I frequently stopped at Moxie Java for coffee where he worked, and he even second-shot weddings with me! He’d tell my clients “one day, she’s going to shoot my wedding” and lo and behold, he met his perfect match, and I had the honor of capturing Paul and Taylor’s big day.
When Paul and Taylor initially called me to chat about their upcoming North Shore wedding, they were especially excited about the incredible geodesic dome house they rented to host their intimate wedding. The Nord Star (formerly Huck Haus) is an Airbnb located near Schroeder, MN along scenic Highway 61. Nestled on the shore of Lake Superior, it’s standout design and eclectic interior made it the perfect location for gathering friends and family - and of course, photos!
We had drippy weather for the majority of the day, but it didn’t dampen our spirits! The fireplace was the perfect spot to warm up when we came inside, and the rain-speckled windows added to the cozy vibes.
There was a great view of Lake Superior through the geodesic dome windows, and a deck with a fire pit near the rocky shoreline.
Taylor got ready upstairs with her cousin and a family friend! The morning was so relaxed, and the windows in the ceiling provided lots of natural light.
Taylor’s jewelry was the perfect mix of sentimental and eclectic. She found a gorgeous rose gold and rose quartz hairpiece on Etsy, and as an avid rock enthusiast, the quartz represents unconditional love.
She also wore a turquoise ring from her grandpa, a jade flower ring from her grandma, the engagement ring her dad gave to her mom, a bracelet from her mom’s side, and pearl necklace from Paul’s side. Plus her engagement ring of course!
Taylor found a beautiful dress off Poshmark for her wedding gown! It was the perfect mix of boho and vintage.
Paul is diabetic, so of course, we had to feature his “most important accessory” in a few detail photos.
Paul’s suit was from Knight’s Chamber in Rochester, and he picked the perfect watch background for the special occasion.
We chose the rocky shore of Lake Superior for Paul and Taylor’s first look. It was so serene, with just the sounds of the waves crashing on the shore.
This was one of my favorite moments of the whole day! ALL the emotions.
This North Shore wedding wouldn’t have been complete without some photos along Lake Superior! Even in the rain, this view was breathtaking.
Seriously, how sweet are these two?!
Taylor’s bouquet, Paul’s boutineer, and Casey’s floral crown were done by Alyssa at Engwall Flowers. They were the perfect pops of color to coordinate with the beautiful landscape!
Taylor's daughter, Casey joined us down by the lake for some photos!
The rain was coming down a little harder at this point (and we were all a little chilly from being outside) so we headed inside for some photos in the geodesic dome before the ceremony.
Hugs from Taylor's aunt and uncle!
Paul and Taylor chose the backyard along the lake for their North Shore wedding ceremony site. Their close friend, Joel officiated the ceremony.
I loved that the couple chose to do an intimate ceremony with 38 people in attendance. Taylor said something to the essence of “we don’t want our wedding to be just some thing you do after your Costco run on Saturday” and I loved how close-knit the day felt with their closest friends and family from across the country.
Paul and Taylor wrote their own vows to each other, and they each wrote vows to Casey as well. I’m not sure there were any dry eyes in attendance after they read them.
The first kiss!
After the ceremony (and warming up for a bit,) we snuck away for a few more photos in the yard. Not only is the geodesic dome beautiful from the inside, it’s great on the outside as well!
The picture on the right totally sums up the “just married” vibes!
I just happened to snap this photo while we were standing around visiting, but just look at the way Taylor’s dad looks at his daughter.
Casey is definitely the coolest 9 year old I’ve ever met.
Paul and Taylor spent a weekend grabbing all their favorite craft beers from Minnesota for their reception - such an awesome idea! Taylor also put together a personal Zine all about their love story, the people that were part of their day, and it even had activities for kids and adults alike. It was such a cool idea, and the guests loved reading all the fun facts and tidbits!
This is one of my favorite photos of the whole day. The ceremony was over, everyone was just hanging out, and you can just FEEL the joy.
Taylor collected vintage dishware for the reception, and wow, was it gorgeous!
The father of the bride got a bonfire going - the perfect spot to warm up down by the lake!
At the reception, there were speeches from the parents of the bride and groom, then Casey gave a heartfelt speech that had us crying all over again.
Paul and Taylor’s intimate North Shore wedding was one I’ll remember for a long time! There were so many personal touches throughout the day that made their day so unique to the two of them as a couple. From the first look on the shore of Lake Superior to getting married outside the geodesic dome to a reception full of laughs, tears, and craft beers, it was simply perfect from beginning to end.
